Holi celebrations at Radha Govind Dham March 2019

Holi or the festival of colors is celebrated in India with a lot of fervor when everyone comes together to celebrate with the feeling of love and harmony. Such was the sentiment at the very first Holy celebration at Radha Govind Dham and the atmosphere  was filled with fun and frolic. Holi marks the arrival of Spring and a fragrant shower of fresh roses and jasmine flowers mixed in with a vibrant rainbow of colors – Gulal created clouds of red, pink and yellow hues in the air. Adding to the joyful celebrations were the melodious Kirtans and the lovely  devotional sentiments of the hundreds of people present. A video recording of Shri Kripaluji Maharaj’s discourse was also shown to explain the spiritual significance of Holi. The discourse included the legendary story of Bhakt Prahlad whose life is an outstanding example of the power of devotion, which can effortlessly nullify the mightiest of demonic powers of Hrinyakashyapu and his sister Holika.

As the festivities continued, little children came in dressed up as Radha and Krishna and devotees showered fragrant flowers on them as they sat on their “Singhasan” (thrones). Many did Balaiya of the cute Radha and Krishna. Everyone also enjoyed and enthusiastically participated in the Phoolon Ki Holi (Holi celebrations with flowers). Many young children had fun throwing the scented flowers at each other; some kids would sift through the flowers as if finding a treasure. Party poppers had the kids in delirious excitement as they filled the air with colorful paper strings. The chanting by the musicians added a special charm to the evening. The melodies of the kirtans and the sounds of the Dhol had every devotee dancing with abandon. The special unique quality of the dancing was owing to the fact that devotees were not just dancing moving their feet or hands but they were dancing unabashedly with the divine, devotional love of Shri Radha Krishna filled in their hearts. A huge thank you to the volunteers who worked tirelessly and made all the arrangements for this wonderful event, with the blessings of Hari-Guru. It was an unprecedented turnout of devotees at the celebrations. The samosas, home-made Gujiyas, lemonade, the Mahaprasad were prepared with love and generosity. We hope to rejoice more and more each year as we keep the celebrations alive, while our hearts are beating to the rhythmic love of our dearest Shri Radha Krishna. Jai Shri Radhey!

Bhakti Shatak Week At RGD

At a recent devotional program at Radha Govind Dham, Devotees got to experience yet another week full of the blissful divine knowledge and soulful chanting. Swami Nikhilanand Ji, an eminent disciple of Jagadguru Kripaluji Maharaj, shared the treasure of the devotional knowledge in the couplets from the famous Bhakti Shatak series. Composed by His Guru, Bhakti Shatak (or 100 verses on devotion) is a clear and concise description of the complete philosophy of the devotional path for the seeker of Divine Love. These verses are written in a simple, poetic form and explain the deepest philosophy of the scriptures like the Bhagavad Gita, the Upanishads, the Brahma Sutras and Bhagwatam. During the course of the week, Swamiji sang and explained the meaning of some of the verses imbued with the deep philosophy of the scriptures. Some of the concepts he shared were the personality of absolute supreme God, the nature of the soul, the nature of maya, the grace of a true Saint, details of the devotional path – different kinds of Devotion(Bhakti), the supreme and blissfully enchanting nature of Radha Krishna’s divine love and Leelas.

Another highlight of the event was the day-long Bhakti Shatak intensive where Devotees chanted all 100 verses on Saturday. Devotees found the experience spiritually immersive and enjoyed the soul-stirring kirtans. A special thanks to all the Devotees who lovingly participated, helped in organizing the event, preparing the delicious dishes for Prasad and making this event a success.

Gita Classes @ RGDDC

Radha Govind Dham DC recently organized interactive Gita classes conducted by Swami Nikhilanand Ji. Many people attempt to read the Gita everyday, but although they find inspiration in its verses, they are unable to clearly comprehend the underlying  philosophy. Swami Nikhilanandji used the teachings of his Guruji, Jagadguru Shree Kripaluji Maharaj, to help people understand the essence of the Gita, clear any confusion and answer questions that may have persisted for years.
As Swamiji explains, in this course, the  overview of the primary teachings of the Gita is more important than the memorization or detailed study of individual verses, which is what sets this course apart from other Gita classes. Chapters 1 and 2 of Bhagwad Gita were covered during the week long session. In this course, participants learned the most important concepts of each chapter and gained an overall understanding of what the Gita is and how its philosophy is important in our lives. The course was also notable for its interactive format which encourages participants to ask questions. Kids were introduced to the spiritual concepts of this widely read and respected scripture, Youth were excited to find the answers to questions that may have gone unanswered in the past, and Parents were excited to gain the knowledge that would enable them to answer their children’s questions in the future. Each day, after the introduction and Kirtans, the group consisting of kids, youth and adults, received the knowledge of Gita from Swamiji. They were also provided worksheets for each chapter of the Gita, to help them remember the key points covered. Additionally, everyone reviewed their knowledge by playing a game of Jeopardy with questions crafted around the lessons of that day. The enthusiasm of the participants was evident by the fact that the kids won the game during most of the sessions. The class concluded with a final question and answer session with Swamiji and the Arati.
A special thanks to all the generous Devotees who brought delicious dishes that were served as Mahaprasad at the event. As a result of the great response received from all of the participants, Radha Govind Dham DC will be organizing the next set of interactive Gita classes soon in the upcoming year.
